ASM is a tuning brand of Autobacs ASM Yokohama. We develop original parts and distribute a wide range of parts to meet the needs of automobile users. For example, we develop original S2000 and BMW parts as well as Recaro seats adopting unique designs. In particular, our machines are famous for their winning streaks at the S2000 time trial event. At the REVSPEED Tsukuba Super Battle 2003 held in December 2003, our NA tuning car achieved a feat heretofore considered impossible to finish under 1 minute (official time: 59.954 seconds) and sent shock waves throughout the tuning shops across Japan. This incredible accomplishment was made possible by the car's 2.2−liter engine manufactured by Toda Racing and its lightweight body using a lot of carbon parts. We introduced these engine and body designs before other companies by anticipating a trend for larger displacement, which has become the mainstream trend today, and gained an overwhelming advantage in the market. The body adopted autoclaved, lightweight parts such as doors and fenders to achieve significant weight reduction. The legend of the fastest machine called" ASM Tsukuba Special" was born through these efforts. At the same time trial event held in December of following 2004, the ASM Tsukuba Special 2004 raced with a tested and proven 2.4−liter engine producing much higher power and output than the 2.2−liter engines other companies were using. The ASM Tsukuba Special 2004 also adopted a dry sump to draw the engine's superior performance with more stability. As for the damper, we adopted the SACHS damper, a premier choice on the many premier touring car racing circuits such as SGT, to get better traction. In the aero-parts department, we introduced the I.S. Design Aero−parts series to achieve further weight reduction and improved aerodynamics. As a result of all these settings and tunings, the ASM Tsukuba Special 2004 won the race in its class for the second year in a row, with a huge lead of 1 second over the second−place machine (official time: 59.283 seconds). In December 2005, the ASM Tsukuba Special 2005 donning pure SGT aero-parts and 18" tires recorded an astonishing time under 58 seconds in the qualify. Boasting a strong body, superior aerodynamic design, and excellent brake performance, the car recorded 58.063 seconds in the main race and won the competition by a big margin of 2 seconds over the second-place entry. The result was the third consecutive win in the class and reconfirmation of the unrivaled strength of the ASM Tsukuba Special. The amazing achievement of the ASM Tsukuba Special has spurred a renewed effort in the tuning car market in Japan toward better aerodynamic design. The various products offered under the ASM brand have been developed with the aim of allowing S2000 users to enjoy their cars on the street, in addition to demonstrating superior performance on the circuit. ASM's project manager Kanayama has driven more than 140,000 km on his S2000 after the car was delivered in June 1999. He has given us valuable inputs along with all our test drivers who report inconveniences and dissatisfactions through actual drives so that our engineers can come up with effective solutions. These efforts have created customized tuning parts that let S2000s users enjoy their cars more. ASM will continue to take on new, difficult challenges to bring more fun and excitement to S2000 users.
